Getting Through the Day
“Courage,” says the bookshelf
Shouldering its heavy load of
thoughts
“Courage,” says the rocking chair
Offering a pillow and a blanket
“Courage,” says the wood stove
Waiting patiently to be filled
“Courage,” caw the ravens, both
Upside down and right side up
“I hold you in my heart,” says
The window seat, looking outward
“I hear you breathing,” says the
Armchair, bearing its load
Without complaining
“Spirit of the wind, carry me home,”
Sings the woman on horseback
“Courage,” whispers Little Bear
Holding my hand
