Woman Made of Mud

This is one of several songs that I wrote for a (now dormant) theater piece, a one-woman show by my friend Nancy Scheibe, based on her travels on the Mississippi River.  Nancy planned to conjure the spirits of some of the many “grandmothers” (an honorary title she bestowed upon memorable women of wisdom) who shared life stories with Nancy as she made her way downstream.  I hope someday Nancy will perform the piece, but even if that doesn’t happen, I’m grateful for the inspiration and her exemplary leadership.
